BSD is Dying

A tongue-in-cheek look at the history and future of the BSD movement. Modeled after the presentation styles of Lessig and Hardt, the talk provides a light-hearted introspection of the leaders, technologies, and community that forges ahead despite having been left for dead some 15 years past.

This presentation was given by Jason Dixon at the NYC BSD Conference at Columbia University on October 28, 2006.

Damn Microsoft bug!

Lesson learned:

Do not parse text file that will have "ID" as the first 2 characters in your output. Excel will throw this error if you import the text file containing it...

"SYLK: File format is not valid" error message when you open file

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you open a text file or CSV file and the first two characters of the file are the uppercase letters "I" and "D". For example, the text file may contain the following text:
   ID, STATUS
123, open
456, closed
Note This problem does not occur if the first two letters are lowercase "i" and "d".

WORKAROUND

To open your file in Excel, open the file in a text editor, and then insert an apostrophe at the beginning of the first line of text.

Boca Cega
Sometimes its good to be lost! I did not find the way to the birthday party I was invited so I decided to drive aroung the Gulf to Bay Boulevard for a glimpse of Gulf of Mexico. On my way to St Pete, I passby a tollway and caught in traffic at the bridge od Boca Cega Bay. Here what I saw and the more I fell in love with this place:

My Spaghetti

This recipe is a fusion of east and west. It uses fresh ingredients available in your ref, no canned or bottled spagehtti sauce, plus tuyo in oil flakes for a Pinoy hint.

Ingridients

angel hair spaghetti noodles
2 medium red tomatoes
1 red onion bulb
2 tablespoon ground garlic
5 table spoon extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoon tuyo in oil flakes
1/2 teaspoon ground red pepper
fresh ground pepper
salt to taste

My Adobo

This is pretty simple. American chicken is "malansa." I just boiled the chicken and throw all the broth away. I boiled it again with a little amount of fresh water, 3 tablespoon of kikkoman soy sauce, 3 tablespoon of vinegar, 2 heaping tablespoon of ground garlic, 1 teaspoon ground red pepper and dash of ground pepper. I cooled it down for few hours and before dinner I broiled it for 10 minutes in oven. Boiled asparagus is later added at the serving plates to provide fiber.
